Abstract

The 1992 International Conference, the eighth sponsored by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, was held in Nice, France, May 1992. The theme of the conference was Advances in Information Technology for Robotics and Automation, and the ambitious objective: "to open the door on the new frontier of machine and system intelligence, from machine and shop automation to the integrated factory, from sensors and mechanical devices to the high-level functionalities of third- generation robots." This three-volume proceedings comprises 432 regular papers from 31 countries, plus nine papers for a poster session. The geographical breakdown of the 423 papers is as follows: North America, 225; Europe, 121; Japan, 49; and other countries, 28. The papers were presented in 105 sessions, with multiple sessions devoted to mobile robots, kinematics analysis, Petri nets, scheduling, force control, neural networks, coordination of multiple manipulator systems, geometric motion planning, and motion planning for assembly.
